History of the Department
The University of Cádiz began the process of establishing the departments in the years 1986 and 1987, during which the Department of Electrical Engineering began to take shape.
On March 2nd, 1988, the first department council meeting took place, and its statutes were approved by the Governing Board of the University of Cádiz on November 20th, 1989.
Inicialmente, este Departamento se encargó de la docencia en las tres especialidades de Ingeniería Técnica Industrial, impartidas en la entonces Escuela Universitaria de Ingeniería Técnica Industrial de Cádiz.
Initially, this Department was responsible for teaching the three specialties of Industrial Technical Engineering, which were taught at the former University School of Industrial Technical Engineering in Cádiz.
Subsequently, with the incorporation of the School of Civil Marine Engineering into the University of Cádiz, new subjects were added, transforming the Department into a multi-campus, multi-city, and multi-area department. Its name was changed to the Department of Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering and Automation, Electronic Technology, and Electronics.
As the Department grew in both size and complexity, the difficulties in its functioning also increased. Despite the Department’s adoption of a decentralized policy by creating Departmental Sections in Algeciras and Puerto Real and granting them a certain level of autonomy, the challenges persisted.
La expansión del Departamento desembocó en 1994, en la transformación del área de Ingeniería Eléctrica en Departamento propio y constituyéndose el resto, como el Departamento de Ingeniería de Sistemas y Automática, Tecnología Electrónica y Electrónica.
The expansion of the Department led to the transformation of the Electrical Engineering area into its own separate department in 1994. The remaining areas constituted the Department of Systems Engineering and Automation, Electronic Technology, and Electronics.
Finally, in the year 2012, its name was changed to the current one, which is Engineering in Automation, Electronics, Architecture, and Computer Networks.
